The ASPCA’s Shelter Medicine Services (SMS) team works to improve the health and welfare of animals, both in shelter and within communities, by strengthening shelter medicine programs and expanding access to veterinary care. The team broadly supports the animal welfare field through mentorship and clinical training of future shelter medicine specialists, providing educational resources and learning opportunities for sheltering and veterinary professionals, consulting with shelter organizations, and conducting research.
