Get a load of this smart solution for waste disposal courtesy of the SPCA of Texas, where they flush it away in floor-mounted service sinks with jet flow action. The sinks serve as “communal toilets” for the shelter’s canine waste and leftover dog food. “They greatly minimize the odors normally associated with shelter cleaning,” says director of strategic initiatives Linda Yarbrough.

The Dallas agency keeps the sinks in both the holding and canine adoption areas. Although they’re on the pricey side (around $1,000 for parts and installation), when you consider the sanitation benefits—and the reduction in landfill usage—the SPCA considers it money well spent.
