Shara Wiesenauer has been the Equine Director for the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) for two years and has been involved in the horse world since childhood. During her tenure, Shara has doubled KHS’ adoption rates and decreased returns. Tactics Shara uses include implementing a thorough training program to give horses in transition a solid foundation for their futures. Working closely with veterinarians and equine nutrition experts, Shara and her team have rehabilitated multiple horses who arrived severely emaciated. Shara’s goals include continuing to grow KHS’ equine division to increase adoptions and funding sources to help more horses in need.

Senior Director of Operations, Humane Society of North Texas
Ellen Rawlins is the senior director of operations of the Humane Society of North Texas located in Fort Worth. She oversees daily operations with a team of 5 directors and a staff of 85. Ellen's former career in the garment industry, located in Los Angeles and New York, led to a career change to animal welfare after working with homeless dogs and cats living in urban areas. A post-baccalaureate degree in nonprofit management sets the stage for protocols, standards, and practices to be applied towards her passion. Providing quality care and enrichment, Ellen supports her team in decision making, trend awareness with goal setting to save lives each day.

Director, Equine and Livestock at the Humane Society of Texas
Heidi Garbe is Director of the Equine and Livestock Department of the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) in Joshua, TX. With her diverse background in animal welfare, environmental education, project management, and research, she strives to merge horse sense with people sense to help animals and their humans.
